Bradfords To Te Mata

A good turnout and with 10 of those quirky little machines turning up
and successfully getting there and back we think it was a very successful day.

This was a 1st time event being all of 1 marque
but we thought a Bradford run would be something different.

The meeting place was the service centre on the southern motorway and
the destination was the North's bach at Te Mata Bay on the Thames coast.
We stopped at Thames to wander through the Saturday Market and arrived
at the bach for a great lunch put on by Joanne.
One Bradford was from Cambridge and the other 9 from Auckland

   

The Annual Galaxy of Cars
Feb 2011

The Lions Galaxy of Cars in the Motat grounds is always popular

and again assisted by good weather.  It also doubles up as the

Jowett Club Northern Branches Pride of Ownership.

24 cars this year lined up, along with display engines and

photo and information boards.

Again for the third year in a row the Jowett Club featured in the best display awards,

coming second

 
The Club display always gets lots of interest due to the unique horizontally oppose engine
that are the hallmark of Jowetts and our display features a static display engine
of the 4 cylinder OHV Javelin engine and the 2 cylinder side valve Bradford engine

 

 

A new feature of the Jowett display was a live operating Bradford engine.

This certainly enhanced the display with something moving and

making the distinctive putt putt sound of this interesting two cylinder engine

 

Congratulations to all who participated in yesterday’s event, 24 Jowetts,

one more than last year I believe! Could have been more, but a couple of hoped

for cars didn’t quite make it.

After winning best Club display for the past two years, this year we were pipped

by the Jaguar Club, maybe because the judges thought we were an amalgamation

of two “marques” the Bradford and Jowett. I am sure we will send them some

information about Jowetts, but this is not our goal. This is a chance to give the cars

 a bit of a spruce up, show them to the public and another chance to drive and enjoy.

 Again this year many interesting discussions with the public Lorna Johns received

 our trophy and magnum of Champagne on behalf on the Club and will be

popping the cork at the Branch AGM
 

 So thanks to those that attended with their Jowetts, thanks to those that drove the extra Jowetts,
thanks to those that assisted with transporting all our display gear, and to those that assisted
with setting up and packing up. A special mention to Mike Brain who set up a working,
 running Bradford display engine on the back of his Bradford. (At last a four cylinder Bradford)
. This active display certainly attracted interested public.
 Also needing mention was Paul Brunner, who has worked every day recently till late at night
 on bringing a Javelin back from just scrap to being on the road.
 Did not make it. Oh for one more day.! I also know Neil spent some time with Paul in this quest

Bruce McLean Trust Coast To Coast Charity Run August 2011

 Although not a Branch event, Jowetts have been attending this for a number

of years. Two Jupiters and two Javelins participated along with another 70 cars

for a run that took in both the coasts on both sides of Auckland. Jowetts again

featured in the honours with Alan Stanley taking out second place in the rally and

 Bunty Condon the award for coolest car

 

 

Nth Branch Jowett Club 60th Birthday Run Sept , 2011

Jowett 60th Birthday Party

An event was held to celebrate Javelins, Bradfords and Jupiters turning 60

 as most of these in NZ are 1951 models. Despite awful weather,

 a turnout of 4 Bradfords, 4 Javelins and a Jupiter along with a number

 of “other” cars enjoyed a run to view a collection of Fords from Model T’s

 through to nowadays. This was followed by a birthday lunch and the

 cutting of the birthday cake by Barbara who with Brian, drove all the way up

from Cambridge.

They where also awarded the Best Dressed Period Prize

 

  

One of the Old Fords at  the collection of Hosts Hugh and Raewyn 

Economy Run:  Oct 2011

This year was a real old time eco run. with much of it on  near one way gravel roads,

up thru hilly steep terrain. Roads that resembled, more accurately same as what existed

in the 1940s and 1950s NZ...A true test of Jowetts as they where intended and

the quality of  workmanship of our restored cars.

Not a single breakdown

This year was approx 104 miles starting in West Auckland heading up past the

Kaipara harbour then inland thru the hills.....Some really stunning scenery...

Then down into Warkworth for a well deserved break and lunch overlooking the river.

And as usual much interest shown by the public with the line up of Jowetts.

After lunch, a bit of  a wander around the township, again off thru the hills and gravel roads.

We thought the trip up was challenging, the home trip even more so with even better stunning views.

Then Fill up and back to the Riverhead Tavern to sort out how well everyone did.

A excellent Run and a excellent day....
